Abstract:
The 2018 statistical data on the incidence of ovarian cancer in Indonesia shown that new cases emerges in 2018 is ranks at 10 and the cases of death is ranks at 8. While the number of patients who performed pre-surgery chest x-rays in ovarian cancer cases at Arifin Achmad Riau General Hospital from 2019 to April 2020 were 58 people. Most cases are found in women of aged 40 - 57 years. One of the preparations before ovarian cancer surgery is to performed chest x-rays. The projections were used in this chest x-ray was Postero Anterior (PA) or Antero Posterior (AP). The purpose of this study was to determine the role of pre-surgery chest x-rays in ovarian cancer cases at Arifin Achmad Riau General Hospital.
This research is descriptive qualitative type research through field observations, literature study, interviews, and documentation. The research was conducted at the Radiology Facility of Arifin Achmad Riau’s General Hospital from June to July 2020. Chest X-ray does not require special preparation during examination, only removing objects that can interfere with the radiograph image and provide the considerate information to patients through good communication.
Pre-surgery chest x-ray performed in ovarian cancer cases found to be the indicator which to determine the surgical procedure to patient. It is for the observation of the potential illness such as metastatic and pleural effusion. If the patient has the potential illness, surgery is not recommended.
